March Wine of the Month:
Bodegas Carrau Sauvignon Blanc “Sur Lie” 2009
This delicious Sauvignon Blanc is from the cool coastal regions of Uruguay where the weather and soil resemble the best white wine production areas of Bordeaux and New Zealand. Grown and made by a 10th generation family winemaker, the wine is picked and fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks and then given six months of “sur lie” (on the lees) contact to preserve fruit and add depth and complexity.
Like many Sauv Blancs, this is nicely aromatic and shows notes of lemon, tangerine, and other citrus fruits. In the mouth the fruit flavors focus on tangerine, lemon, a little green melon, and a note of tart lime candy with just a tiny hint of fresh grass. Although the wine’s firm acidity shows clearly on entry and the fresh, bright, finish, the vibrant fruit is swaddled in a creamy, rich, texture that makes it seem almost full-bodied and very, very, deep.
This is probably the most versatile Sauvignon Blanc you’ll find anywhere. It has all the bright citrusy fruit and zip that New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc drinkers crave, plus the richer, creamier, texture sought by folks who love white Bordeaux, Chardonnay or Pinot Gris. Sip it on its own or pair with meaty fish like halibut or swordfish, pasta and chicken salads, grilled white meats, or most any dish with a citrus or summer fruit element.-Cecile’s Wine Cellar Notes

WINE BACKGROUND:
I am currently a Wine Consultant at Cecile’s Wine Cellar.
I never thought I would be doing something like this since I went to school for broadcast communications, but it has truly been a blessing in disguise. It has really helped me to become well-rounded, and learn more about food, people, running a small business, and obviously wine. I’m not sure if I will do this forever, but I know it will be the perfect step to my next career choice.

Chapel in the vineyards in Tain l'Hermitage
I completed Level 1 and 2 of the International Sommelier Guild in May 2009, and like I said before, this was a huge accomplishment for me since I went into it knowing very little.
Wine is a huge part of my life right now so you will find wine reviews in my everyday posts along with wine reviews on my review page. Each month I will also choose a wine that I am loving at the moment. A wine that I think you all should know about. I will feature that wine as my Wine of the Month, and you can find it right on this Wine page.

Sutter Home Vineyards in Napa Valley
Also-you will find under my Travel Page more about my wine trip in Italy I took in August of 2009. I was fortunate enough to be chosen to go to Italy for 6 days and try wines from many different vineyards and producers with Siema Wines. I look forward to many more trips in the future (whether it be through work or on my own).

Wine Tasting at Gainey Winery in Santa Barbara
Aside from wine I do love all other drinks.

I won’t be featuring too many of those under the Wine page, but I will post anything I love under my daily postings.

Cheers!
